We support customers with Centers of Excellence in Washington DC, Huntsville, AL, and Burlington, MA, with an additional 36 locations across the U.S. Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer Avionics, supporting the Fixed Wing Branch HC / MC-130 Recapitalization Program. This is an ACAT IC program designed to replace the aging fleet of Air Combat Command (ACC) HC-130P / N aircraft and Air Force (AF) Special Operations Command (AFSOC) MC-130E / H / P. Responsibilities Apply the principles, criteria, and procedures of Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 5000.1 and DoDD 5000.2R, as well as policies and processes of HQ AFMC and AFLCMC Engineering Directorate, to all SOF acquisition engineering tasks. Possess and demonstrate knowledge of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services. Provide advisory assistance in developing system concepts and performing technological / trade-off study assessments of proposed designs. Assist with technical support in planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts used to define total weapons systems / subsystem requirements, translate requirements into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches, develop system specifications, and perform trade-off assessments, including airworthiness considerations. Support the development of system performance requirements, objectives, integration, and resource estimation for system design, development, and support. Apply engineering expertise and extensive knowledge of the functional area to resolve unique or novel problems related to design and development engineering, including planning, program management principles, acquisition regulations, and other engineering disciplines used in sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs. Assist with planning, analyzing, and evaluating engineering efforts to define system requirements, translate them into design criteria, evaluate design approaches, and develop specifications. Perform analysis, evaluate proposals, present conclusions, and integrate technical requirements and directives in support of projects/programs, including reviewing specifications, drawings, and supporting documents. Assist with evaluating performance, assessing design changes, and recommending cost-reduction measures. Coordinate special studies on design changes, recommend solutions to technical problems, and propose engineering approaches during development and production. Manage performance/cost relationships and analyze systems to ensure operational integrity and reliability. Perform comprehensive analyses using systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to determine performance objectives and integration issues. Qualifications Must be a US citizen with TS/SCI clearance. Possess a Master's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (MSEE) with over 12 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 6 years in avionics, software, or testing for the DoD. Degrees in other engineering disciplines are acceptable with a minimum of 8 years in the relevant areas. ABET-accredited degree preferred.
